Options for the design and construction of a Stone Fireplace are virtually endless. From a flat lintel to an arched opening, nothing beats the warmth and character of an open fireplace. Generally, stone fireplaces are "roughed in" with cinder block construction, then faced with stone. However, solid stone construction is also entirely possible (not usually to code however). The thickness of the facing can vary, depending on the type of stone used, the design of the fireplace, and your personal preference.
